Tofino Surf Trip - Spring 2024
Tofino is known for it’s surfing culture and outdoorsy activities. This trip was a 4-day camping/surfing trip with the UBC Surf club over easter weekend.
Surfing is very fun, but I found that weather and water temperature just too cold. I surfed two of the four days, and hiked the other two days.
Takeaways from the trip:
- Standing up on the board is very difficult so be patient
- Similar to skiing, a good surfer will weave as they ride the wave to position and match the breaking point
- The aquatic life is very beautiful and is definitely worth exploring
- The original Tacofino food truck is acclaimed for it’s delicious and good-value surfer food but the burrito bowl was sub-par
- Surf Side was about equal in terms of quantity and quality
- Cox Bay Beach has consistent waves, a good hiking trail, but can be difficult to reach on account of a 200m walk from the parking to the beach (that’s a long way to carry your surf board)
